Makeup and Acne: What You Need to Know

Acne shouldn’t stop you from expressing yourself through makeup. Wearing makeup with acne is completely okay! The key is choosing the right products and using them safely.

Makeup Application and Removal Tips!

Choose Acne-Friendly Products

Select products that are labeled “non-comedogenic”, “oil-free” or “won’t clog pores."

Find and Remove what Triggers your Acne

If you notice acne flares after makeup application, try identifying the causal product and stop using it.

Prep Your Skin Properly

Before applying makeup, ensure you wash your hands, cleanse your face, then rinse with warm water.

Applying Makeup

Use makeup applicators (e.g., brushes) instead of your fingers which can put oil on your face. Wash your brushes with soap and water every 7-10 days to prevent new breakouts. Gently apply makeup on your face to avoid irritation.

Don't Share Makeup

Avoid sharing makeup or applicators to prevent bacteria, dead skin cells and oil – all things that can cause acne - to be spread from one person to another.

Removing Makeup

Remove makeup before bed with a makeup remover (micellar water or an oil-free cleanser), then follow-up with your regular cleanser to remove any leftover residue. Avoid scrubbing your face when removing makeup!
